We are a registered charity run by volunteer parents. We raise money for King’s Somborne C of E Primary School, a village school of around ninety children near Stockbridge in Hampshire, and we organise the events that bring the school and the village together.
The Association is a separate charity from the school. It was registered with the Charity Commission in 1993 and is run entirely by volunteers. Every parent and carer of a child at the school is automatically a member.
What we pay for
School budgets do not stretch to everything that makes a primary education good. Money raised by the Association pays for things the school could not otherwise afford, year after year:
- Music for the whole school, through the Listen to Me programme run by Hampshire Music Services
- Coaches for school trips, so cost is never the reason a class stays behind
- Equipment for every classroom, chosen by the teachers who will use it
- Books and reading records
- A Christmas present for every child, and a visit from Father Christmas
- Book bags for every new Reception child
- A gift and a framed photograph for every Year 6 child leaving us
- Outdoor and play equipment, including the school grounds
What we run
Across the year the Association organises the summer fair, a quiz night in the village hall, Christmas wreath making, the Christmas fair, cake sales, school discos, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day gift shops, raffles, and a visit from Father Christmas.
Some of these have been running for well over a decade. They are as much about the village as the money.
How you can help
- Come to what we run. Turning up is the single biggest thing.
- Offer an hour at an event. You do not have to join anything to help on a stall.
- Join the committee. We meet once a term and always need people.
- Order name labels at MyNameTags using school code 32190, and the school receives 24% of what you spend.
For local businesses
Every spring we ask local businesses to donate a prize for our summer raffle, and again in the autumn for Christmas. Many have supported us for years, and their generosity is a large part of what we are able to give the school.
If you would like to donate a prize, or support the school in another way, please get in touch. We are always glad to hear from you.
